when i wasn't floating in the ocean and watching the sunset in koh pha ngan, my second favourite thing to do was to ride around the island on a scooter. compared to my experiences driving in india the roads were so much better with significantly less random potholes to trip you up. there were also far less other vehicles and people on the road which made things easier. the only aspect i found more challenging were the gradients which were far steeper than i was used to. it wasn't so much of an issue to ride uphill, but the steep downhill sections became a fair bit more tricky, particularly as the brake pads on my scooter felt like they were wafer thin. regardless if i was going out to get something to eat i'd almost always take the long scenic route to maximise my journey time, with earphones in, stars above and the cooling wind rushing by the feeling was incomparable.
