yesterday i spoke about how the island of south georgia was full of magical moments, and to be honest i was spoiled within the first day, with this encounter occurring a few hours before a bird joined my cloud composition. i was in a zodiac with my camera pointed towards a shoreline full of king penguins and fur seals, when suddenly a member of our boat exclaimed to look behind us. i swung around with my camera as an albatross floating on the water unfurled its mammoth wings and started running towards us. it was a heart stopping moment to be so close to this astonishing animal, who has the largest wingspan of any bird, as it sprinted along its water runway and took to the air.
this is one of those occasions where i took a burst of photos, and had a difficult time selecting my favourite from the set. so i made a quick little video of the sequence
