emotional landscapes
this is skazka canyon, one of the most dramatic places i visited in kyrgyzstan. the red sandstone here has eroded over millions of years creating rocks in lots of weird and magical shapes. the word skazka is a russian word which translates as fairy tale, which seems entirely appropriate. it was a bit of a mission to get to, a journey which involved arguing with 'taxi' drivers, hiding under a tree during a torrential downpour and eventually hitchhiking with some very kind locals who i couldn't understand. the weather cleared up and i ended up spending hours wandering up, down and around - it really felt like i was roaming on an alien planet.
