i've met a lot of monkeys in my time travelling, from places including bolivia, ecuador and taiwan, and one commonality which i used to regard as fact was that they don't like water. this theory was turned upside down when i first arrived in jaipur and i was exploring a local park. my first sight of monkeys already got me excited and as i continued closer i noticed that a large portion of the grass was flooded with puddles so big that they essentially formed mini lakes. the troops of monkeys were running, climbing and jumping around these temporary bodies of water, but after a while i spotted a pattern, there would be a few monkeys who would climb up the trunk of a tall tree, swing out onto the branches so they were dangling high above the water... and then intentionally let go to drop and splash. there is something so joyful, and dare i say inspiring, about witnessing animals playing around purely to have fun.
