drowning butterflies
a couple of weeks ago i made my annual pilgrimage to holland park. it was a pretty grey and wet day, as it has been for a lot of this month, unlike the same day last year. as a result of the weather the peacocks weren't strutting around the japanese gardens, but instead hiding under nearby shelter. so in their absence, and in keeping with the water falling from the sky, i decided to photograph the japanese water fountain aka shishi odoshi. along with the peacocks, it's another feature of this garden which i remember from visiting as a child with my grandmother. with a fast shutter speed i tried to time the shot as the water struck the bamboo, but in all honesty i had no idea if i was getting much at all. the trick is to just keep on shooting, and eventually some of those photos will have water within. it all came together when i came in from the rain and combined the few shots that had these waterdrops to create this composite image.
