to breach the hive
before i snapped a photo of a chilling weddell seal i took a walk on danco island to see the gentoo penguin colony. as well as these flightless birds there were also a few skuas hovering around. the penguins seemed rather unbothered by the skuas, but these flying birds do eat gentoo eggs and chicks so i imagine they must have been instinctively weary of their presence. unfortunately for the skuas the penguins hadn't started laying eggs yet so they couldn't pick up a penguin.
