while the penguins were plentiful in south georgia, the dominant creatures were certainly these fur seals. their size, sounds and attitude all made it very clear that we were visiting their land - if they let us. in fact when we first arrived to the island we had to abandon our planned landing as there were far too many of them on the beach and they didn't want us to join them. fortunately that wasn't the case everywhere so i did get to walk amongst them, albeit from a respectfully safe distance.
