this frozen sea
every year since i started this photoblog i’ve left the country at least once, even during the pandemic when i was fortunate to get away just before the lockdowns began. however i was resigned to breaking that streak last year, as it got to the autumn and i had no trips on the horizon. that swiftly changed in november when my dad generously invited me to join him on a once in a lifetime voyage to antarctica. the journey would involve returning to argentina and then spending the best part of three weeks sailing to the falkland islands, south georgia and the antarctic peninsula. it was a uniquely amazing experience, which i will doubtless struggle to put into words. fortunately i took an overwhelming number of photos which will hopefully do a better job illustrating the beauty of these far away lands. it felt appropriate to kick things off with the icy majesty of cierva cove, where we spent the morning riding our zodiac through the brash ice and soaking in the serene beauty.
