power to the people
last week a crazy proposal was announced in the world of football with the creation of the super league, a closed competition where so called 'big teams' would play each other every season, with pretty much no consequences for winning or losing. twelve teams signed up for this as 'founding members' which included six from england with my club arsenal amongst them. the architects of this proposal managed to achieve something almost unheard of, unanimity within football supporters, as almost everyone was against the idea. 48hrs after the announcments the six english clubs all pulled out of the competition amid widespread condemnation. arsenal's next fixture was on friday, and before the match started thousands of fans protested outside the stadium, with the ire aimed at stan kroenke, the american billionaire who currently owns the club. many of the signs at the protest were shaded with british humour, and this was probably my favourite, a reference to an iconic moment from a reality tv show called come dine with me. it's been a pretty terrible season on the pitch for arsenal, and clearly not much better in the boardroom, so it felt good at least to have a sense of unity among the fans.
here's another shot from the protests, you can check out more on my instagram post
