to make a clean escape
last thursday felt like the first time in a while that the sun came out in london, so i picked up my camera and took an improptu walk along the river. i headed west towards the setting sun, and made it here to millenium bridge just as the sun dipped below the horizon. it's been almost 7 years since i took and posted pictures from this bridge, and when i look back at those old photos i'm struck by two thoughts. firstly i think my photography has changed and (hopefully) improved in that time, i don't think i'd post the 7 year old photo if i had taken it today. secondly it makes me think how sensitised i've become over the last 12 months to the concept social distancing, as i feel an immediate discomfort at the number of people on that bridge and their proximity to each other. despite these differences there is a commonality when it comes to me photographing this bridge, which is i tend to heavily lean on photoshop to help me achieve my vision. with this photo i ended up flipping the direction of the jogger and the family so they were both facing inwards towards each other, which i felt gave more balance to the composition.
