to pass the time
i was walking around the city on my final day in osh and found this group of old men playing chess in the park. one of them challenged my friend to play, and beat him quickly and comprehensively - which was no real surprise when you imagine how much time these guys get to play. the got a little bit arsey when we refused to keep on playing, until another old kyrgyz man defused the tensions, so we ended up passing our time drinking vodka with him instead.
