after i flew into the capital of madagascar i went to the bus station to travel across the country. the bus station was a hive of activity, which i found familiar from my time in south america, and i used my basic french to find the correct bus, buy a ticket and work out when it would depart. that last part was particularly challenging, as they don't really follow strict timetables in madagascar. while i was waiting for the bus to leave i made friends with this little kid. he was running around everywhere, causing just the right level of mischief that people were charmed instead of annoyed by him. at this stage he had found some soapy water in an old tyre and entertained himself and others by blowing it out from his hands. it was a really joyful way to pass the time, and when the bus was finally ready to go i left the station with a big smile on my face.
