coffee and tortillas
when i returned from my short central american holiday i took an overnight flight from cancun in mexico, however i had also taken an overnight bus to reach cancun, meaning i had around 12 hours to kill. i decided to go the beach, so i hopped on another bus to visit playa del carmen. this is a place which in most circumstances i'd avoid, it's super touristy, inauthentic and catered to the gringo crowd. my first impressions matched my preconceptions, i walked out of the bus station into a pedestrianised street selling, tacky souvenirs, designer clothes and overpriced food. however as i moved away from the beach and into the centre i discovered that the real mexico was hiding behind. so i grabbed some street food, pulled out my camera and switched into street photographer mode for as long as i could stand it under the intense mexican sun.
