microphone

i was back in the studio the other week taking pictures of girls singing. i've done it a few times before so i thought i'd learn to deal with the low light by shining a light through the recording booth window, experimenting with a bit of fill-in flash and trying to balance the iso and shutter speed. i snapped away, presumably distracting the girl who was trying her best to ignore me and sing, looking at my screen after each shot and thinking that i'd got quite a few good shots. it was only when i got back to my computer and uploaded the photos that i realised how misleading the tiny screen was compared to a normal size (or in my case supesize) monitor. this picture is a good illustration of where i was going wrong. you see, it looks sharp enough, so i figured i could you similar settings for the other shots. the trouble with this logic is that microphones are inanimate objects, and girls, like most living things, tend to move. and movement at low light with slow shutter speeds tends to blur. still, at least the microphone looked sharp in each of the shots.
