tall trees
this time last month i uncharacteristically went on an exercise binge, quite unusual for someone as lacking in basic fitness as me. round one of this began on the saturday evening when i went mountain biking in grizedale forest. i cycled the north face trail which is around 10 miles in total and took about 3 and a half hours. it was the first time i'd been mountain biking in exactly one year, and only the second time i'd been for as long as i can remember. it felt like it. i was fit to collapse at the end, when i stopped to catch my breath my legs started shaking and cramping, and i think if there had been any more uphill sections at the very end i would have broken down. still, there's something about knowing you have to finish, otherwise you ain't getting home, which drives you on. i felt like i truly deserved that chicken tandoori kebab when we finally got back.
