hey jupiter

hey jupiter
hey jupiter, nothing's been the same, so are you gay? are you blue? thought we both could use a friend to run to
in my last post i said how the warm setting sun, combined with a positive mood, inspired me to pick up my camera and shoot for the first time in a while. it was good timing as the following day i'd be leaving goa and moving to a different state, so before that i was keen to have a go at some astrophotography for the first time since arriving in india. there was a rocky outcrop at the end of arambol beach which i had earmarked in the back of my mind as a potential spot to try, facing away from the artificial lights that dotted the shoreline. so late that night i walked down the beach, climbed over a few rocks to shelter from an annoying spotlight and set up on a rock a couple of metres above the water. i set a timelapse going as the sea swirled beneath me... and then the waves came crashing. i swear the positions of all the rocks somehow amplified the noise, and the darkness certainly amplified my sense of terror, i was suddenly grateful for that artificial spotlight so i wasn't trapped in total darkness. i had paranoid thoughts about how a particularly big wave would rise up and snatch away my camera, thoughts that weren't easy to quell when each wave sounded bigger and louder than the last. i constantly surveyed my surroundings to ensure that i wouldn't be stranded on an ever shrinking island, reassuringly my route back was always clear every time i checked. so i persevered with the timelapse through the crashing waves, and told myself i'd stick it out for as long as possible, my mantra being if i was dry then i was safe. all in all i managed to take fifty photos until a bit of spray made it's way up to me, and i didn't hesitate for a second to grab my gear and scamper back to safer ground.

motivated largely by the fact that i'd stuck it out for so long, here's a video i made from those fifty frames
