let the great world spin

let the great world spin
not in vain the distance beacons. forward, forward let us range, let the great world spin forever down the ringing grooves of change
similar to the last picture i posted, this is an old photo which took me ages to process, both due to the complexity and my indecisiveness in processing. there are also strong similarities with a photo i took a few weeks prior in the south coast of england where i combined photos taken at different times of the day. so... i was trekking in a place called theth in northern albania, and as i took a rest at this spot to grab a drink i saw the sun was setting and illuminating a slice of the mountains. i took a photo, made my way back to camp, and then returned a few hours later after it had got dark. i tried to find the same location and set up my tripod to begin taking a timelapse of the stars. after an indeterminate amount of time i noticed that the corner of the frame was progressively getting brighter. at first i thought someone was shining a torch before i realised the light source was actually the moon rising from behind a mountain. i was annoyed at first because i knew this would blow out the stars and essentially ruin the startrails, but when i returned home and got all the files on my computer i realised that the moonlight would act as a perfect proxy for the setting sun i had captured in the first shot. the concept seemed sound, but the execution was far from simple which is why i'm now posting it two years later. well, that's one reason why i'm posting it now, another is because it seems appropriate as yesterday i flew out of england to begin some new travels. and when i say travels, i mean move-out-of-my-flat-and-buy-a-one-way-ticket kinda travels. the last few weeks and months have been full of stress and organising, but tomorrow i'll arrive in india full of excitement and the promise of unknown adventures - i can't wait to let this great world spin again.
