a memory of what used to be
by the time i completed the first of my two years in south america i was still able to recite my exact route, much to the impatience of all the travellers who'd asked me where i'd been so far. for some reason it always became a bit patchy after that, but only for certain countries. for example ecuador and colombia is pretty much locked in, but i struggle to remember the names of places in peru and venezuala. with peru i blame the lack of originality when it comes to municipal naming, i mean who's expected to remember the difference between huanchaco, huacachina and huancabamba? with venezuela, well all i can think is that i'd just travelled through ten other countries and space was running out in my head. with that said, one venezuelan place i'll never forget is canaima, arguably the most beautiful national park in the continent.
